My friend Kenny Young, who is our candidate for North East Fife in May as well as being the chair of Scottish Labour Students, was lucky enough to hear Al Gore speak at the Edinburgh Literary Festival last night.
Gore is busy promoting his new book and film, An Inconvenient Truth, which highlights several prescient concerns about climate change and the environment. For many angry Democrats, he should have been the President to succeed Clinton – and arguably he would have been, even with the Florida fiasco, had he involved his former boss more prominently in the campaign.
Since the start of his book and film tour, many Democrats have been excited about the possibility of Gore running again. He has always rejected the proposition – until now. Kenny had the Vice-President to sign a copy of his book but as he was short on time, Gore wrote ‘Al Gore 4 US’.
Perhaps I’m reading a little too much into it, but has he done a U-turn? And where does this leave the one candidate in the not-so phoney war for the nomination who would be able to make Republicans seriously think about switching sides?
